In this chapter, we will cover a variety of datasets and techniques that are useful for modeling and understanding urban natural hazards. We’ll follow the Future Bay Initiative’s “Stanford Urban Risk Framework” (SURF) which delineates three key inputs to risk estimation, followed by the risk estimation itself:

• Hazard data
• Exposure data
• Vulnerability data
• Risk estimation
